Dear Parents,
We continue to work on counting, writing and phonics. Specifically for February, we are talking about "F" (February), "P" (President's Day), "V" and "H" (Valentine's Day). For Ground hog Day, we experimented with shadows and talked about the "S" sound (for sun) and the "sh" sound (for shadows). We even made shadow letters and numbers with our bodies. We also are talking about the 5 vowels (a,e,i,o,u) and how they can make a short and long sound.
We are doing a lot of practice counting to 100 to get ready for our 100th Day of School. The children are getting really good at filling in the missing numbers! We will also practice counting by 2's, 5's and 10's.
In conjunction with President's Day, we will begin working with money. We will need lots of pennies, nickels and dimes. If you have a cup of change gathering dust, we would love to borrow it!
Finally, in conjunction with our Animal Unit of Work, we will talk about animal habitats and other fun facts.
Don't forget, keep on reading to your child!!
Thanks,
Teacher Suzanne
