Dear Parents,
Thank you all for your Christmas Party cheer. It was a very nice way to end out 2008 par of the school year, and a great start for our Christmas vacation. We certainly have a lot of fun here!
We are looking forward to a happy new year of learning: projects, trips and guests. Remember the Family of the Week project?
The school was given a Grant from the Rowan Family Foundation, part of which will enable us to bring in programs, and as promised, we will be making improvements on the playground.
We would like to welcome a new student. She has a peanut allergy - Please be aware when sending in treats. We want her and her mother to know we all care.
There have been reports about all children must have a flu shot, now! Please check with your doctor and do what he suggests. Reminder: If you have not updated and given us your child's immunization record, please do. The school will be fined $1,000 for each missing record.
The Unit of Work for January is "My Favorite Way to Travel." Your part is to make a large model from any material of your child's favorite way to travel. This will be due the week of January 26th. We will display your work for the entire week.
January is the month of snow... so they say. You will be notified by phone Early in the morning if school will be closed. You obviously will not have school if all other area schools are closed. If we happen to have an unexpected snow during the morning school session, we will close by 1 o'clock to get your child safely home. Rancocas is the last place plowed, so it always looks bad in town.
There will be some changes made concerning our Gym class. It will be on Thursday at 2 p.m. Teacher Sam is coming back! He will also be able to attend the St. Jude's Trike-a-thon in April and our school science trip to LBI in May. Two Thursdays a month we will have a girl Gym teacher. We are looking forward to meeting her.
We will be having Open House this month on Wednesday mornings and on the 28th 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. If you know of anyone who would like to visit, please pass along the information. We will do just what we always do on a normal day - you know we don't pretend to be something that we are not. If you are planning to continue on to Kindergarten, registration is open for K, too.
Speaking Kindergarten, we continue to do our specialized work at the Meeting House on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. In practicing our writing, math and reading skills, we integrate themes from the Seasons, any holidays and our units of work. This month, we will highlight Winter Weather words, transportation concepts and discuss the inauguration of our new president. We will also be learning about our five senses.
Please continue to read to your child daily and practice the K sight word list to reinforce our work here. Thank you!
We wish you all good things in 2009!
Love,
Teacher Nora
and
Teacher Suzanne
